Senator Reid Backs Online Poker

I read this over the weekend and looks like this lame duck session just might bring about a change at least for online poker. If the US bends on online poker I think it will be just a matter of time before the revenue generated by online casinos is to much to ignore a swell.

Looks like land based casinos are backing it.

Quote:
Alan Feldman, a spokesman for MGM Resorts International, a large Las Vegas-based casino company, said he hoped such a bill had a possibility of rushing through in the next few weeks. "A lot of things happen in this kind of time frame," he said.

Re: Senator Reid Backs Online Poker

It is my personal opinion that this will get put through during the lame duck session and I cant wait to see it happen.

And to me, with the landbased casinos backing this it should even have more of a chance of happening. Plus I dont blame them for wanting to keep it in the states hands. That would make more sense, and have the states getting well needed money coming in.

The revenue that could be gotten by allowing online gambling would be well worth the effort to regulate it or whatever all it is that they will have to do. Which makes me wonder why the big fight to get it done away with to begin with.

All of the talk about protecting the youth, problem gamblers etc doesnt wash with me either. There are ways to keep our kids from gambling online, and anyway all of the above mentioned only make up like 1 percent of all the online gamblers.

So I hope they all push as hard as they can and get this changed. It would be very profitable for them to just go ahead and regulate it.

Re: Senator Reid Backs Online Poker

Well, it looks like were finally seeing some progress to our online gambling rights in the US and it looks like the way they're talking this new bill may be passed, and soon.

On another note; I see that Caesars has pulled out of the Harrah's Entertainment group and are now Caesars Entertainment Corp.
It looks like Caesars isn't waiting around for the other land-based casinos and is jumping the gun (so-to-speak).

I'm all for that.

Interesting I thought too but being somewhat of a conspiracy theorist when it comes to big money and government, I can see the reason why this is happening. Now Harrah's has two ways to promote the same company.

I did find another article:

Harrahs has two ways now huh? Well thats good for us though cause it will give us more places to play right?

I am just hoping that they get this job done before the lame duck session is over.

With all the complaints about national debt and states not having money, one would think that they would implement every way possible to have more money coming in. And hopefully they think that way now.

Re: Senator Reid Backs Online Poker

If there is any hope at all it will be in the next few weeks. The President announced a tentative tax deal late Monday evening and is in place between the Democratic and Republic lawmakers and the door has been left open for Senator Reid to attach the gambling bill to the final piece of legislation

The Bill would open up much needed employment and with that the flow of revenue to each state and that would help lower the unemployment in each state also

With so much focus on the gambling billl and the end of the year so close One has to really wonder if we have any hope at seeing a answer by the end of this year. And to hope that if passed the the effects will soon start and at the begining of 2011

Re: Senator Reid Backs Online Poker

I just read an article where this gambling bill is referred to as predatory gambling. Simply because there would be a casino available 24X7 in every home across America.

So what if there is? We have the right to spend our time and our money as we please. We work for it and its up to us what we do in our spare time.

As I see it, theres a bar open in every home that wants it 24X7 and that is a lot more lethal than gambling ever thought about being.

They worry about the young becoming addicted to gambling, well I would rather see them addicted to gambling than to alcohol, drugs, or meth. All of these addictions have the potential of killing you, gambling doesnt.

Re: Senator Reid Backs Online Poker

After all week and churchs comming out to in protest against Rieds on line poker bill
The bill which Senator Reid is backing would use technology so that a person with a gambling problem would make it more difficult to fall into gambling holes and spending limits are set and kept That is somehting that we do not have now How ever when the church comes out to fight such gambling issues in the U S but in some instances its a member that is the worst gambler abusing thir position to fule gambling problems

Quote
"The nun, who if following church law, is supposed to denounce gambling, instead had an addiction to the activity. According to Iona basketball coach Jeff Rutland, Thornton had a reputation of visiting Atlantic City casinos on a regular basis, leading to her theft of $1.2 million.

The school itself had overlooked missing money until donors started to complain. Thornton is charged with sending made-up invoices to the school to pay expenses. The nun was in charge of the school's finances while she was employed at Iona from 1999 to 2009"

To me this is a sad the money was to be used for the school but instead was used others wise for her personal gain and that in is self is just greedy and
make no sence . I too like to gamble dont get me wrong but not at the expence of others if i have it extra thats fine i am not going to steal it

Re: Senator Reid Backs Online Poker

Once again the poor Senator Reid is getting more flack by his opponents saying

He is pushing the online poker legislation to repay Las Vegas gaming excs

to repay them for their policital support the intentions may or may not be

right But the bill may be right for gamblers . I think the debet has gone to long .

They by now know this propsel back and forth and upside down by now what eles are they looking for
