PokerStars Talks about Buying Atlantic City Casino

PokerStars is in serious talks about buying the Atlantic Club Casino hotel in Atlantic City, NJ, in hopes that they may operate legal poker games.

Here's what The Wall Street Journal published about that on Dec. 6th 2012...

Quote:
Four months after PokerStars spent $731 million to settle a Justice Department lawsuit, it is in advanced talks to buy a casino in the hope that New Jersey gambling regulators will let it run online-poker games legally.

The online-poker giant is discussing a deal to buy the struggling Atlantic Club Casino Hotel, formerly the Atlantic City Hilton, from investment firm Colony Capital, several people familiar with the matter said. One of these people said the purchase price being negotiated is less than $50 million.
Read The Wall Street Journal's full article on Poker Stars, here.

By reading this article, I would say that Poker Stars is looking forward to opening doors in the real gambling world, in brick-and-mortar casinos.

It's not like they haven't been in the real gambling world thus far. But to own an actual casino for poker games, that is way cool!

The article from The Wall Street Journal may not show, so here's another article from PokerFuse, which talks about PokerStars buying a casino in Atlantic City, or talking about buy the casino.

Re: PokerStars Talks about Buying Atlantic City Casino

Thanks for the very informative post you made.

Now that Poker Stars has taken care of their obligations to the DOJ, they should now be able to move on and get their ducks in a row. By buying the hotel, that would leave them open to a way to go back into online poker legally and this would make all poker players very happy.

I wonder how soon before the purchase is made then how soon it would be before they are up and running again?

Re: PokerStars Talks about Buying Atlantic City Casino

I'm sure the casino they are wanting to buy is still running. No need to shut down a money-making establishment because someone else wants to buy it.

PokerStars are still going strong within the online poker games industry. They want to get into the brick and mortar casinos and spread their wings in that aspect.

And I'm sure once PokerStars gets their grip on a casino for playing card games, they are sure to hosts several of the major poker playoff tournaments, like the WSOP; that's where the real money is these days.

Re: PokerStars Talks about Buying Atlantic City Casino

From what I read yesterday evening, it will only be online poker. That they wont be bringing online slots etc back. And that would not be right.

But then again, I guess that they consider poker a game of skill and slots not a game of skill. So only time will tell as to whether we get our full compliment of online gambling back or not.

Re: PokerStars Talks about Buying Atlantic City Casino

You have a point there, bartongrl1. But I think it's PokerStars' small step towards the larger picture...

Las Vegas casinos are getting geared up to offer other online casino games in the near future, that is other than the facebook gambling games some casinos already have.

Re: PokerStars Talks about Buying Atlantic City Casino

Ok, clarify this for everyone that will want to know, will people only from the states that have legalized casinos online be able to play in them, or will anyone from anywhere be able to play there?

Im sure there are a lot of people out there wondering about that.

Re: PokerStars Talks about Buying Atlantic City Casino

Well, from what I read about the Atlantic City casinos and the online poker games they have available...
Only people in the local area will be able to play the online poker games and they have to have a special device to play them on, in a certain area.

So overall it sounds like legal online poker games in the US are starting in local areas.
I believe the online playing areas will expand once there's some type of law passed that states online poker is legal to play in the US.
But, we may not see any mention of it until after the 1st of 2013 (just my guesstimation).

Re: PokerStars Talks about Buying Atlantic City Casino

Thank you for clarifying this question. I had wondered if just anyone would be able to play the games from other states.

Now what about the Facebook slots etc. Do you have any information on them yet?

Not really, bartongrl1.

All I know is that several game makers have slot games available to play with real money on facebook.

Well, I think I know of one and that's Party Gaming. I haven't been keeping up with it lately.

Re: PokerStars Talks about Buying Atlantic City Casino

I just wonder if we can play them and then collect the winnings? I guess theres only one way to find out and thats to deposit there and play and hope I win so I can cash out and see if I get the money.

I also see that you can get comp points at the Vegas hotels in Vegas if you play their games so that would be a good deal for when I visit Vegas again.
