LAURENS, S.C. - A former fifth-grade teacher accused of having sex with her 11-year-old student was ordered held on $100,000 bond Saturday.

Prosecutors had wanted Wendie A. Schweikert, 36, jailed without bond, saying she was a danger to the community and a flight risk.

Schweikert was arrested Friday on two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor after the boy's mother accused the teacher of having sex with him at school at least twice, said Laurens Police Chief Robin Morse.

The former teacher admitted in a statement to having sex with the boy, Morse said.

Schweikert, who resigned from her job at E.B. Morse Elementary School on Friday, did not speak during the hearing, and did not have an attorney. The boy's mother tried to tell the judge how shaken her son was, but was choked back by tears.

The boy "wanted his mother to tell the court he was scared," prosecutor Jerry Peace said. "He is terrified that the defendant will get out on bond."

A man who answered the door at Schweikert's home Saturday would not comment.

Laurens is in northwestern South Carolina.

I feel so sorry for the kid that had to go through all that.

She'll get a few months and probation. If it was a guy teacher, he'd get 3-8 years or so.

Kinda messed up as far as the seperate sentencing between genders but it's a messed up situation to begin with.

Jake,

I totally agree with you about the whole gender thing. Although it seems to be this way, our justice systems are currupt, both in Canada and the US... I am not sure about other parts of the world, but I know North American justice is so currupt its not even funny. Also, it seems now that all the major sex offenders, seem to be a big target for the media to blow up these kind of stories. Also, it is sick to see the people that want to "meet and marry" these sex offenders when they get out of jail. I could rant about this for so long, but I will leave it as that. There should be much higher penalities for sex offenders....PERIOD.

^And the cancer that IZ pedophilia spreadz throughout the world, for the most part un-checked and considered obtrusive in the mainstream of the political world...If the PEOPLE..you and I..don't decide to do something concrete and committed (even if itz just complaining to your congressman) we can count on watching theze offenderz spin through the revolving door that iz the American justice system, and then wonder where they are az they possibly groom our own children...Thiz iz the realization that keepz the fire burning for my group..even if we end up the only onez..^ ^^Belz^^

I agree with the gender thing, we have a female teacher here in our town that got involved with a 17 year old boy and got pregnant. They ran off and got married and she just had the baby. She will be showing up in court this next week. We shall see just what justice does. So far the baby has been put in the care of the state, however friends of hers are trying to get the child, As well as the grandmother of the boy.

^Kewl..Thankz for the move..Hell-o William my friend...I saw an interview with the woman you speak of...You wouldn't believe her disposition..She actually considerz HERSELF the victim...But large kudoz go out to the boyz grandmother..When the woman called and talked to her she told the grandmother "All I'm trying to do iz give you a family"..To which the grandmother replied "I already have a family..I don't need one with a PEDOPHILE in it"..She then proceeded to bring the chargez...Letz hope they stick and an example iz made...^ ^^Belz^^
