U.S. confirms loss in Online gambling trade case

According to reuters.com:

>U.S. confirms loss in internet gambling trade case

By Doug Palmer Thu Jan 25, 2026 7:01pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States has suffered a new setback in a four-year-old legal battle with Antigua and Barbuda over U.S. restrictions on online gambling, a U.S. trade official said on Thursday.

At issue is an April 2005 World Trade Organization ruling against U.S. prohibitions on online horse race betting. Since then, the U.S. Congress has passed additional legislation to ban online gambling and online poker over the Internet.

Gretchen Hamel, a spokesman for the U.S. Trade Representative's office, confirmed press reports that a WTO panel "did not agree with the United States that we had taken the necessary steps to comply" with that ruling.

The issue is a touchy one for the Bush administration, which supports free trade but whose conservative allies in Congress pushed through a bill late last year to ban most forms of Internet gambling.

This is very good news and a very good day for online gambling and online poker .'

Online Gambling casino firms like partygaming, 888.com, and cryptologic most be very happy today.

I don't think it will make much of a change at this time...but its still encouraging to know that the world is taking a stand against this . Maybe in the future our governmant will take a closer look . In the meantime it looks like google will be blocking all casino ads...

Casino Ads Banned By Google
Onlinecasino.org News | 24.01.2026 | 12:31:36 | Views: 252 | Casino News

Online casinos will be banned from advertising websites on the worlds largest search engine, Google.com.

Google HQ made this voluntary decision after being reported in marketing media. Google and its rival Yahoo both have been warned off by the US Justice Department authorities for promoting gambling though advertising pop-ups indirectly to underage users.

Yahoo's decision only applies to the United States; however, Google plans to extend the ban worldwide since justice officials have already been exercising a major crackdown on all aspects of Internet gambling.

This recent information follows reports that the US Justice Department will be forcing banks in the UK to fork over information regarding their business with many online poker websites.

It is quite obvious that the Department of Justice is targeting online websites that trade their stock publicly on the London Stock Exchange, such as 888 Holdings and PartyGaming.

Based in the United States, Google Inc. specializes in Internet Search and online advertising. Google was co-founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and was first incorporated as a privately held company on September 7, 1998. Eric Schmidt has been Google's chief executive officer since Larry Page stepped down in 2001.

Google's mission statement is: "To organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful."

Hi

I can understand Google because they are based in the United States, but how can we force the UK to give up info.

If other countries get pissed about this, they might quit exporting to us. What do you think?

I think there are a few people in the Government behind this that are trying to stir things up, but since this new loss, they will probably be scrambling to find more ways to keep the pressure on, In the long run as things unfold I think it will die out and just plain go away, but it's gonna take time.

Hello

I sure hope you are right that conjecture. I would be glad to see it happen.
