4 accused in gambling investigation
April 14, 2025
Four men who allegedly took more than $100,000 in bets on the NCAA basketball tournament were arrested on felony gambling charges after State Police listened in on their cellphone calls, authorities said Thursday.A Fulton County judge authorized police to electronically eavesdrop on the calls of Brian Showers, 42, and Paul Roy, 39, both of Gloversville, and Edward Howard, 52, of Fonda. All were charged with gambling promotion and misdemeanor conspiracy.
State Police allege Howard and Roy took bets by phone, then consulted with Showers, who collected the debts.
Police said more than $50,000 in gambling records were found when police raided the home of the fourth man, 63-year-old David Noble of Broadalbin, on April 5. He was charged with felony possession of gambling records and misdemeanor gambling promotion. Police say he took bets over the phone from Roy.
Police say they seized more than $45,000 in cash, four vehicles and froze bank accounts worth about $150,000.
All four men were issued appearance tickets.
The investigation was conducted by the State Police Special Investigations Unit in Albany and Amsterdam police. -- Jordan Carleo-Evangelist
