Wink Brewers try for an appeal

Just after Sundays game between Pirates and Brewers, the Brewers have sent both a written explanation and a DVD to Major League Baseball. Relations manager John Steinmiller says Milwaukee is greatly upset over one play which was ruled as being a hit, and it is believed it was an error. If this play is ruled as an error, starter CC Sabathia will have the second no hitter in franchise history.
The protest over this play will be sent to the senior vice president of club relations Phylis Merhige along with the commissioners office in hopes of an appeal on this call.
The official scorer of the game Bob Webb says he saw it and called it, and believes it was a hit, even though it was a difficult play.
MLB state that only the offical scorer may make a change to a judgment call with in the first 24 hours of the conclusion of the game. The league can only ask the official scorer to change the judgment call. The league is unable to force a change in the judgment call.
Manager for the Brewers Ned Yost claims that it was a no hitter game and he should get what he deserves.

Re: Brewers try for an appeal

It'd be a shame if it was a no-hitter and the pitcher doesn't get credit for it. This is what I don't understand about baseball......why don't they use the tape and check it out, like they do in football??? This would clear up a lot of these issues and the right person would be able to get credit.

Actually, nope....there's no 'instant replay' in baseball....if there was, I'm sure there's hundreds of calls that would be reversed... The games are long enough already without instant replay.

As of last Thursday there is instant replay in baseball but it will only be used to clarify home runs.

This is the "correct" way to appeal it but it won't be the same if he gets it now though.

Re: Brewers try for an appeal

Thanks for the update propiper!! That's what I was trying to say, lol, that there should be instant replay in baseball, like there is in football.

It won't help that they do have it though, if they aren't going to look at all contested plays..........well, hopefully this is just the first step, and they will see the error of only using it for one purpose.
