Alabama Govenor and Birmingham Mayor Disagree.

Here we go again. The issue of gambling is at the forefront in Alabama. The Mayor of Birmingham is against the Govenors task force that is currently investigating the states gambling operations.

The Govenor feels that the electronic bingo machines are actually illegal slot machines in disquise. He even plans to oppose the plans by legislation to approve gambling and its taxation.

We don't need people like this running our government. I bet hes another one of those horse racing fanatics and is just out to line his own pockets. I can't stand it.

There is a lot of money invested in the poor families and their children of this country and it comes from bingo halls. Many charities raise money by hosting bingo games. Why would you take this money away from the people who really need it?

So true hb!!! I know the bingo halls here, most of the proceeds go to abused woman and childrem's homes. It seems the government wants all the money for themselves. It is a shame this country has come to this. And they wonder how we got here?

When will they ever hear the voice of the people. Most people want to play bingo, poker, slots and so on and would like to not have to have the government tell them they cannot. This has to stop!

What really gets me is that laws get passed that will allow us to do something (in this case - play bingo) and then somebody sticks their nose in and messes it up. Instead of saying their piece in the first place, they allow us to get excited about what is happening, people spend a lot of money to get started - then they throw a wrench in the works and stop it all.

I think it stinks that one person can stop the good things that others are trying to start - I thought this is why we vote! We are supposed to live in a country that allows us to make decisions through the voting process - it doesn't make sense that once something is voted on and passed that someone else can just come along and muck it up!
