Online gambling illegal?

I read on another forum that online gambling is illegal in the US? Is this true? I had no idea? You mean I can't play bingo or blackjack online? When did this happen? I don't mean to sound ignorant, but how can that be. Some of us can't afford to travel to vegas to have fun!!

October 2006 the UIGEA bill was attached to the Port bill and when the Port bill was signed, it put the gambling bill into affect also.
