Understanding Craps
Do you think you can't learn to play craps? Does it seem confusing? If so, you may be suprised to learn how very easy it is to learn. Once you understand the basics, the rest falls into place. One of the most important parts is to learn how to make a passline bet. There are about 40 types of bets you can place but passlines are the best to use at first.
Quote:
The next time you are in the casino stop and listen when you approach the table games. From the craps pit you will probably hear whooping and hollering as you see high-fives and other animated gestures coming from the players. Craps is by far the most exciting game in the casino and the players are not afraid to let their emotions show. The game is fast moving and at times very loud. It is for this reason that craps is probably the most intimidating game to new players. If you feel this way you are not alone. Many players would like to learn how to play craps but the thought of approaching a craps table scares them.
Craps is not as confusing as it looks. It actually is an easy game to learn. An understanding of the basics of the game and how to make a passline bet will get you started on your way.

Understanding Craps
I am apparently one of the many people who are afraid of the craps tables. I have watched people play a little and tried to figure it out, but it always seemed to go by so fast, I couldnt make heads or tales of what was going on. I love to learn how to play new games, but this one I had given up all hopes of understanding it enough to play. Maybe now I will be able to learn how to play, and then get enough courage to actually approach the table with at least a little confidence.

Understanding Craps
Thank you for posting this. I decided to try my hand at some free table games several days ago, and went into the craps game, lol. I looked at the table and had no idea what to do, so I left.
After reading your post, I think I will give it another try. The table looked to complicated to me, I really didn't understand even where to start. Now, with the information you've given me in your post, I should be able to at least begin playing, and hopefully will understand more and more as I play.

Re: Understanding Craps
I have been in casinos that have table games and heard the enthusiastic yells from the craps tables, but it is a game that I have never understood and never had the urge to play.
But after reading your post here, it is something I just my try a couple of times on my next trip to Vegas. Who knows, I just might come home a winner.

Re: Understanding Craps
You can basically start playing craps with little knowledge. There are a lot of possible bets, but you can keep it simple.
The "pass line" bet lends itself to beginners.
Just place your chips on the area on the table that says "pass line".
Now you are betting that the person rolling the dice is going to win.
If the shooter rolls 7 or 11 on the first roll, he wins and so do you.
If he rolls 2, 3, or 12 he loses and so do you.
If he rolls anything else (4,5,6,8,9,10) he needs to roll again.
Now he needs to roll the same number he just rolled again (it's called a point number), before he gets a 7.
He keeps rolling and rolling until he either gets that same point number or a seven.
If he rolls that point number again first, you win.
If he rolls a 7, you lose.
Simple, no?

Re: Understanding Craps
Wow, Dominique!! You made it so simple, that even my little pea brain understands it now, lol.
I'm definitely going to go play now, and test it out. (I took notes, lol.)
Thanks for the post......it's much appreciated.

Re: Understanding Craps
You certainly made it more understandable. Thanks. It is confusing to just read how most of the instructions are written. It is almost too much information! I am definitely gonna give it a go next chance I have!

Re: Understanding Craps
Dom, thanks again for the information that you gave us! Since learning about the passline betting, I've been playing craps in free mode, just to try it out. I've been having a great time and find that after 30 minutes or so of play, I'm coming away with a total winnings of about $50 or so......I don't bet big,
I was wondering though, if you had any recommendations on where to go from here in the game.....the next step so to speak? I've got the passline down now, but the rest of the board still confuses me.

Re: Understanding Craps
I'm living proof that anyone can win at craps...lol
I was so intimidated, like many people are, my first time....
But, it's the most fun game you can play at a casino, and when the table is hot, it's like you're at a standing room only party!
One word of advice: Steer clear of the "field" bet. This is a suckers' bet, and where the casino makes most of their money from craps. If you want any chance of winning, simply "buy" #6 and #8, play the pass line, and take full odds once the shooter "comes out" with the point.
Most casinos offer 5x (max) odds....
This means that if the point is 8, and you have $5 on the pass line, you can place an "odds" bet of up to $25. You place this bet behind your bet on the pass line. Other harder-to-make numbers, you can only place 3x or 4x odds on.
To add a twist to the game, Vegas casinos offers up a "Fire" bet, usually at a maximum $5 or $10.
This is really great! What happens, is that the shooter has to make each of the numbers (4,5,6,8,9,10) before shooting a 7.
The payouts start with 4 'points' being made, for a payout of 25:1, then increases to 250:1, and if all 6 'points' are made, the payout is maxed at a whopping 1000:1!
