Tip Pooling Policies at the Wynn

The dealers at the Wynn Las Vegas don't want to have to share their tips with other workers at the casino. They don't feel that it is fair. They have taken their case to the Nevada Labor Board.

A decision was to be made on the matter in January but that was delayed because the board commissioner, Michael Tanchek needed more time to get through 55 hours of testimony from the hearing.

Now a decision isn't expected until about mid-May.

Quote:
Wynn dealers are asking Tanchek to find that the resort's new tip policy violates state labor laws. They are asking him to award about 500 dealers $35 million in back pay and penalties.
Wynn attorneys maintain that their policy fully complies with the law. they feel it is no different than waiters and waitress's sharing tips with busboys and cooks.

Both sides have said that if the decision is not in their favor, they will appeal.

Re: Tip Pooling Policies at the Wynn

I have always thought that tip sharing was wrong. That means you can be a good dealer and have to share your tips with all the ones that do not work as hard or is as friendly as you are.

Some people want to do this so they don;t have to work as hard to get more tips. It is very unfair. If the players like you they tip you more, so if they wanttips make them work for them.

Re: Tip Pooling Policies at the Wynn

I completely agree with you. I waitressed for years and had to work with one girl who was simply lazy. She didn't take care of her tables very well. People were always waiting on her to take their orders. She would get the orders wrong. She was simply not a good waitress. If I would have had to share my tips with her I would have quit in a heartbeat because I would have felt that I was working my tail off just to give her my money. I earned it not her.

I am sure this is how some of the dealers feel at Wynn. I am they work very hard for their money and they shouldn't have to share. If the other workers want tips they will get them if they have earned them. If they don't get good tips then they must not be performing their job well or maybe they should switch jobs. Period.

I know their are lots of places that require you to split tips and I totally disagree with it.

Re: Tip Pooling Policies at the Wynn

They had something simular to this about the dealers having to share tips with the managers and pitt bosses. I wonder how that one turned out? Or maybe this is the same thing that's been going on for quite a while now.

I know that some of the dealers get put on tables that don't have a lot of action on them, so they won't get tipped as much. I think all the dealers should add their tips to one jar and then the tips get sorted out evenly amongst them.

But to give the dealer's tips out to other casino workers, that doesn't sound right to me.
If the other workers are doing something that doesn't include tipping, they don't deserve a tip, period!

Re: Tip Pooling Policies at the Wynn

Right on there Dyno Don!!!! Dealers are like a waitress, some work harder than others do. I know that there are tables that do not get played as often, but and here is the but..LOL If they were more friendly and fun to play at then people would play there and they would get tips. I think they move the dealers all around so the tables are not always covered by the same dealer.

If players like a special dealer they are gonna play where ever they are dealing. I do not believe anyone should have to split thier tips.

Re: Tip Pooling Policies at the Wynn

I knew that it was qring I have worked for tips most of my life and when you work for tips you are only making three or four dollars and hour. Most tip jobs you really work you buns off for to,and for only three or four bucks and hour.I would be so mad if I had to share my tips with other employees. Most of them make at least minimum wage, unlike myself.

I am glad that they had to pay back the money to the dealers, that was very wrong for them to do in the first place. It is about time of something fair and just happening in this area.I know that they have some very happy employees about now,I know that I would be if I were one of them.
