Mountaineer To Cut 175 Jobs

A local racetrack and gaming resort, located in West Virginia, in my area has just announced that they will be cutting 175 jobs. The 8.6% workforce cut effects both those who were salary and hourly paid. They say the reason for this is the economy and an increase in competition from Pennsylvania.

Jack Sours, president and general manager of the resort says that this was necessary to insure viability for the long term at the resort. He says people just don't have the money to spend like they used to.

This is really bad news for my area. People cannot find work around here as it is. Families continually have to move out of this area simply because they cannot find work here. My hope is that maybe this will end up being just a temporary thing and folks will be able to get their jobs back.

It's so sad to see so many businesses failing, and of course the resulting loss of jobs. Casinos mostly seem to be able to stay viable and then boom once again when the economy gets better. It's such a shame that so many of the workers in the U.S. are now on the hunt for work. My heart goes out to the families that are struggling right now.

This is just that last thing anyone wants to hear about. More people losing their jobs due to the economy. Right now there just arent any jobs to be had in my area. I know I have been on of those who are searching desperatly. I also hope that it will just be a temporary thing and all those who lost their jobs will soon again be back to work. No one can afford to be with out work right now.
