Attempted suicide blamed on Online Gambling.

It was reported this week that an actor who had just been fired from his job had attempted suicide due to gambling debts.

Well, there is much more than gambling or debts from gambling that can be and are the cause of attempted or completed suicide.

Some of these reasons are not as obvious as others. For instance, some people suffer from bipolar disorder, another is obsessive/compulsive disorder, another is caused by prescription drugs that can actually cause a compulsion problem. Or drugs that do not interact well with each other.

To make a true determination as to why someone has tried suicide, one would have to delve into every aspect of that persons life. Would have to look at everything that is going on with that person.

To just come right out and say that it was caused by one particular aspect of a persons life is to me completely redundant.

If a person has a gambling problem, there are ways for them to get help. One is Gamblers Anonymous. Another is their local Mental Health offices who can put them in contact with whomever it is they need to see.

To blame one thing in a persons life for an attempted suicide is so wrong, and if you know of a person who seems to be in over their heads, or seems to be to the end of their rope, reach out and try to help.

As to Online Gambling being the cause of this attempt, it may not have helped, but it was not the cause, there are other factors involved, so the people who believe that gambling caused this are very naive in their beliefs and just havent taken the time to look at the total picture.

i agree they will only pick the gambling as the reason for the attempt of suicide but there are other contributing factor in which he felt compelled to take his life everything can become a problem in life if you let it like over eating or drinking or drugs the thing that makes them a problem is in the thinking of one mind and the effect these have on a person this is just MO

It is very rare that someone dies by suicide because of one cause. There are usually several causes, and not just one, some times it’s genetically predisposed that are the contributing factors or as bartongirl1 has posted mental illness, depression and other life events combined not just one thing.

You would have to pick apart every aspect of someones life that has attempted suicide or died from suicide to come to a realization as to why they did it.. and they would find that there are many contributing factors.. It is never just one thing.. One thing may have pushed them over the edge but many took then to that place..

I agree Ivpoker you would have to pick apart someone’s life. It takes many events to cause someone to feel totally helpless and hopeless and there would have been signs leading to that point in a person’s life such as severe depression that someone in that person’s life would have hopefully picked up on.

I do agree that it could be many factors. Gambling just seemed to be the main cause well atleast the way the article was spun. I wonder if those gambling debts were owed to. If it was owed to the not so friendly boys in suits then I can understand his distress. I don't really see how online gambling could be the main cause.

Since it was online gambling, I doubt any money was owed, but do imagine perhaps quite a bit had been spent. But still, the gambling thing is only the "tip of the iceberg". And there are probably many other contributing factors.
