Nevada's king of "props'' is back at it, as Jay Kornegay again has come up with dozens of wacky wagering options on the Super Bowl.
Kornegay, executive director of the Las Vegas Hilton's race and sports book, and his associates have posted hundreds of betting propositions on the big game. They range from the run-of-the-mill point spread (New England is favored by 12 points over the New York Giants) and the standard "over/under'' bet. That's a wager on the combined number of points scored in the contest, and Kornegay has that at 54.
But after that, it gets more intriguing. For instance, his customers can bet if there will be points scored in the first 5 1/2 minutes of play, on which team will make the first coach's challenge to the officials' call, even the distance of St. Louisan Laurence Maroney' first rushing attempt (over or under 3 1/2 yards).
But the really interesting options are the cross-sports propositions, in which aspects of the Super Bowl are put up against situations in other athletic events.
