Expensive for kids

The neighbor boy loves to play Soccer and he is very, very good at it.

Now he is playing Soccer and I try to go to all of his games. But some schools ask so much money for kids to play sports.

The neighbor girl wants to play basketball and it cost so much money for only 6 games that they can't afford it. I feel so bad for her.

Her brother gets to play soccer and she can't play basketball. Doesn't seem too fare for her. It breaks my heart that some of the places cost so much money.

Does anyone else have a problem paying for sports for kids? I can't believe they charge so much money. She is so good at playing basketball too.

Re: Expensive for kids

It is definitely more expensive than when I was a kid. It cost nothing to play any school sports except baseball because you had to have your own glove. The city recreational leagues were also free or something like $10 (which is probably like $30 in adjusted dollars today).

I saw a news show recently where someone was doing private fund raising t pay for kids to be able to play in local sports leagues. I had no idea there were so many people who could not afford it, but this guy has sponsored hundreds of kids to play baseball and soccer this summer. Pretty cool.

Re: Expensive for kids

Every year for five years now i have paid $60.00 dollars for my son to play football. For the past 10 years I have paid $75.00 for my kids to play baseball/softball. It is ridiculous! We have a very hard time paying the fees to sign them up but it is too important to them to not pay it. I really think they should lower the costs for kids to play sports. Imagine the talent out there that is not being brought to light because the fees are too high for the parents to pay!

Re: Expensive for kids

I remember all of that, when my kids were small it was bad enough.. I would hate to have to do all of that this day and time. I don't know how people afford it. But yet the kids have to do something.

Re: Expensive for kids

My daughter is wanting to get into an after school activity this comming year. She isnt good at playing the normal sports like soccer, softball or volleyball. Though she does have a beautiful singing voice and so we are going to enroll her in choir.

Though I was surprised to find out just how much it is going to cost to enroll her. They want $63.00 per student to sign up. I was completely shocked at this one.

Heck when I was in choir in school, it was free. Though they say it is because the robes they purchase are expensive. Heck for $63.00 I could make several robes myself here at home and they would proably end up looking alot better than the ones they purchased.

Though because she wants to do this so badly, I couldnt say no. I will have to pay out the $63.00 to make her happy. Plus this is going to be a great way for her to meet new friends, travel around a bit and have alot of fun showing off her talents.

She really is a great singer when she wants. Though she can sometimes peel the paint off the walls with her voice when she doesnt want to sing, ROFL.

These after school programs are not only a great way for our kids to have alot of fun doing something that they love, but it is also a great way to keep them out of trouble. These school programs should be free for the kids. There are just to many talented kids out there who are left in the dark because these fees are just way to high for many of the parents to play.

I can understand there needing to be a small fee, though what is being asked for is just horrible. Right now there are many who barely make it from one pay to another, yet have some really talented kids who no one will ever see, just because these stupied enrollment fee's are sky high!
