How Much Is NOT Having Internet Gambling Worth?

How Much Is NOT Having Internet Gambling Worth?
by I. Nelson Rose

Besides Gaming Law, I sometimes teach a class called "Remedies." Here law students learn the very important lessons of how the real world works. Winning a legal battle is worse than worthless if what you collect is less than your attorneys' fees.

This is exactly what the U.S. is trying to do to Antigua in its dispute at the World Trade Organization (WTO) over internet gambling. The issue revolves around one of the more difficult questions taught in Remedies: How much should someone pay for destroying a business that did not yet exist?

How much is not having INternet Gambling worth.

Any way its cut and dried, the US will fight this to the bitter end.

This was supposedly done because of "Moral" reasons? That excuse is way out there. When our senators etc can cash $10,000 checks that bounce and are not payed for in over a year, thats morally wrong and teaches young people the wrong way of doing things.

Morally wrong is not having prayer in schools, look at what has happened since prayer was stopped.

Morally wrong is presidents with mistresses. So cut the "Morals" excuse, it doesnt float anymore.

The " Wire Act"? Thats for telephones, most people who have computers dont use dial up anyway.

The easiest way out of the whole mess is just to scrap the UIGEA and have it done with.
