Rising Mississippi River Causing Temporary Casino Closures

The rising Mississippi river is causing some casinos to close temporarily.

Quote:
The Mid-South Convention Center, Veranda Hotel, Terrace Hotel, Bellissimo Spa, Links at Cottonwoods Golf Course, and Willows Sporting Clays are all protected by the Mississippi River levee system and will remain open and functional while Tunica casinos temporarily close due to the rising water level.
R. Scott Barber, Regional President said that as always the safety of their patrons and employees is of the utmost importance and the biggest factor in their decision to close temporarily.

Quote:
"At this time we are preparing to close the Harrah's Casino barge on Sunday, May 1 and the Horseshoe Casino and Tunica Roadhouse Casino barges on Monday, May 2."
Quote:
Please Note the following facilities will not be affected by the rising Mississippi River level and will remain open regardless of river level.

Terrace Hotel at Harrah's Tunica
Veranda Hotel and Harrah's Tunica
Bellissimo Spa at Harrah's Tunica
Cottonwoods Golf Course at Harrah's Tunica
Mid-South RV Park at Harrah's Tunica
Willows Hunting Center and Sporting Clays at Harrah's Tunica has been relocated and will remain open as well.
I am glad that their bottom line isn't put before the safety of their employees and their customers.

Its great to hear that somewhere values their patrons and employees above all else and that they close for everyones protection.

Those barges are pretty famous for the on river gambling and I am so glad to see that they will also be closed for the safety of employees and patrons and also for the safety of the barges themselves.

Its so refreshing to see for a change that human safety comes before everything else.

I heard something about they don't expect things to be quite as bad as they had first expected. Something about New Orleans opening a dam or whatever allowing some of the water to flow through. Thats good news.

It is also good that they are not risking their employees to remain open for business. If necessary, everyone is shutting down.

I guess Hollywood casino is staying open as well. they are not affected by the river until it reaches 47 feet. So far so good.

Quote:
John Chaszar, Vice President/General Manager stated that as long as we have parking, and most importantly, can provide a safe and enjoyable experience for both our customers and cast members, we will remain open. At any point we feel that the safety of any individual is at risk, we will make the decision to temporarily close operations.
No amount of money is worth risking someone's life thats for sure! Kudos to them.

Re: Rising Mississippi River Causing Temporary Casino Closures

Well, it wasn't bad for as many as they thought it would be but still it was bad.

In good news, one casino will now reopen after being closed for four weeks.

Nine casinos in all were closed in Tunica but now Fitzgerald's Casino Hotel will be open once again on Friday the 27th of May.

Quote:
The river reached its second highest crest in recorded history of 47.8 feet on May 10. The Fitz, along with eight other hotel casinos, closed temporarily.

"We are thrilled to bring the Fitz family back together here in Tunica," said Miller. "Many of our guests and team members have been with us for years and we are grateful for the overwhelming support we have received from both during this time."
I am so glad for them and their patrons. Hopefully the others will be able to reopen soon as well.

Re: Rising Mississippi River Causing Temporary Casino Closures

Its horrible when you think of all the devistation that this river has caused with this flood. And it was the second time that it has gotten this high.

This flood has caused so much damage and also loss of jobs, even if only temporarily, it has caused much heartache for many.

I am glad to hear that some of the casinos will be able to open back up soon and that people will be able to go back to work.
