appeal an election
PITTSBURGH, a union representing security workers says it will appeal an election in which workers at Pittsburgh's new slot machine casino rejected union representation.
Steve Maritas, the organizing director of the International Union, Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America says casino officials threatened workers with a loss of wages and benefits if they unionized.
About 80 security officers, surveillance agents and technicians voted secretly Monday to reject the union.
The casino issued a statement saying they did nothing wrong and that the ballot was conducted properly with supervision by the National Labor Relations Board.
The casino opened in August and has about 1,000 employees.
