Somehow I just dont see young healthy college students sitting in front of a computer for hours on end gambling. The students that are in college for an actual education, are doing just that, getting an education. What the rest of them are doing, Id be willing to bet, would not be putting as much time and effort into online gambling as these people would like us to think they are.

Canada hosts more gambling websites than any other country in the world.

But with online gamblers four times as likely to become problem gamblers, Canada needs to solidify laws, a leading researcher into online gambling says.

"I think the federal government needs to take the bull by the horns and make it clear in legislation that gambling is either prohibited or it's legal --but they need to get rid of the uncertainty," said Robert Williams, a gambling researcher from the University of Lethbridge in Alberta.

Williams was in Waterloo speaking to members of the Waterloo Region Action Group on Gambling Issues and others in the community.

University and college-educated men in their 20s are gambling more than anyone, Williams said.

To listen to the experts tell it, our students are drinking, drugging, and gambling to excess, which makes one wonder how there are any graduates at all after the students get through all that they arent supposed to be doing.

Well don't they just know freaking everything. Who can predict whom
is going to become addicted to what.

Gambling is something that mostpeople do without loosing control. There are risk factors that people
need to be aware of. A persons personallity dictates wheather or not
they will gamble in excess.

The laws can not control this. If this was sothen they would have to make things like overeating a criminal offense too.

You are so right. Whether we become compulsive gamblers has a lot to do with the type of personality we have.

People need to also be aware of the fact that some prescribed medicines have side effects that can actually cause compulsive gambling.

It doesnt matter whether the person who has a gambing problem is gambling online, in a landbase casino, or in a dark room or alley somewhere, they are going to find a way to do it, and the general public shouldnt have to give up a little recreational gambling just because a small percentage of gamblers do it compulsively.
