Hawaii Getting Casinos?

Hawaii is one of two states in the United States that doesn't have some sort of legalized gambling. They are taking to steps to possible change that.

A bill has been introduced in Hawaii by a lawmaker that would legalize casinos in the state. The bill was passed through to the entire legislative body on Wednesday by the House Committee on Hawaiian Affairs.

Quote:
The bill amends the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act to authorize casino gambling operations on Hawaiian homelands. It would establish a Hawaii Gaming Commission and currently dictates that 80 percent of tax revenues generated from legalized gaming would be reserved for the Hawaiian Homelands Trust fund; the remaining 20 percent would go to the state's general fund.

It is believed that current economics has made the Hawaiian governement more acceptable of casino gambling.

Utah is the only other state in the United States without any form of legalized gambling.

Re: Hawaii Getting Casinos?

Hawaii is a popular destination for vacation, anniversarys and honeymooners, so I have to admit that adding in casinos to add to the fun there would be a great way gain added revenue.

People are going to gamble, there is no question about that, so why not use that advantage to help out with things like road maintence, schools and so on?

Makes sense to me.

They should allow gambling there too,why wouldn't they want to take advantage of the money that the state could get that kind of money from.Everyone else almost is doing it now.It is helping alot of school systems all across the united states.

It is pretty stupid if you ask me,not to take part in the gambling aspect of things.People and alot of people enjoy playing and have for many years now.Hawian citizens should fight to make this happen, they will like the benefits of having it around.Stand up and fight for what you want Hawii.

Re: Hawaii Getting Casinos?

Welp, from what I just read the bill that would allow Hawaii to have casinos just got shot down from the sky!

I guess on Wednesday state lawmakers killed the bill that would have allowed casinos along Waikiki Beach.

In one way they do still feel a bit victorious in that they finally did at least get a public hearing on the matter for a change. They feel that was at least one step in the right direction.

So nothing has changed, Hawaii and Utah are still the only two states in the United States that have no forms of legalized gambling.

Quote:
Because of Hawaii's budget crunch, brought about by declining tourism to the islands, state lawmakers took testimony on a bill that would have allowed a five-year license to a casino in Honolulu and created a tax on gaming revenues.

Public testimony was overwhelmingly against the measure.

In addition to the Honolulu Police Department, the Honolulu Prosecutor's and state Attorney General's offices opposed the bill.

Well hopefully they aren't being overly optimistic about this and it is one step in the right direction. I really thought that this would pass. Shows what I know I guess.
