Mike Sexton Poker Hall of Fame

Mike Sexton who has been in the poker industry for a very long time has recently won enough votes to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. Comming November 7th he will officially be entered into the Poker Hall of Fame.

Others who also had the possibility of being inducted into the Hall of Fame had fallen short of the needed amount of votes to be inducted, though there is always hope for the next round.

To be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame a person needs to recieve enough votes from those who were previously inducted into the Hall of Fame along with 15 others.

Some of the other nominees that had their sight set on also being inducted though as I said their votes fell short of what was needed. Those nominees were Eric Seidel, Scotty Nguyen, Dan Harrington, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu,
Barry Greenstein, Tom McEvoy.

Re: Mike Sexton Poker Hall of Fame

I just read that Tom McEvoy didn't make the Poker Hall of Fame but that he is happy his good friend Mike Sexton will be inducted in on November 7th at the ceremony in Las Vegas.

He is not ashamed to say though that he does feel that he deserves to be inducted and that he feels the voting system needs to be tweaked.

Quote:
"I will be the first to shake his hand and congratulate him," McEvoy told Casino City on Sunday from his home in Las Vegas. "He's a worthy candidate and if I had a vote, I most definitely would have voted for Mike. I'm real happy for him."

He goes on to say that he does not agree with the new voting system that Harrah's came up with this year. It basically goes like this... Voting was opened up to the general public and then the top candidates were voted on by a panel of the 17 living members of the Hall of Fame and 15 media members. In order to make it into the Hall of Fame, a player has to get 75% of the ballots their way.

Sexton was the only one to get in.

Quote:
"I hope this doesn't sound like sour grapes, because it isn't, but there's a flaw in the system," McEvoy said. "I think the new balloting system makes it too hard to get in. If there are 32 ballots, you need to get on 24 of them to get in. That's a lot. Especially when you have so many great candidates like we did this year. I think we all kind of canceled one another out on a lot of ballots because they could only select a maximum of three players."
It does sound to me as though sometimes there may be nobody who makes it in with the way the voting system is. Thats kind of crazy.

Re: Mike Sexton Poker Hall of Fame

Welp, it's official. Mike Sexton was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame just last night. I didn't get the chance to watch it but from I've heard Mike was very heartfelt, sometimes humerous and really emotional. He was well deserving of this.

He is the 38th person to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame but he was the only one inducted this year.

Here is a snippet of what Mike said last night....

"To you other eight guys that were on the ballot, a piece of my induction goes out to you because you were all a big part of me making it here" "That's what makes my induction this year even more special. The fact that I was voted in over such a great class of players who I feel will all be in the Hall of Fame someday."

He made a twenty minute long speech during the dinner break of the WSOP Main Event final table in front a fully packed room of people.

Here is what he said about his parents before introducing his brother...

Quote:
"Our mother passed away almost 30 years ago and it's a shame that she never got to see Mike on top of the poker world," he said as he choked up and the room went silent. "And our father died just a little over a year ago. He loved poker and he loved cheering Mike on during his career. I know that he's watching over us tonight with a big smile on his face."

I am glad that he made it into the Poker Hall of Fame. It was well deserved.
