Poker and skill.

I know that it takes some skill to play a decent game of poker. How are persons graded for their skill level when it comes to Poker?

We of course have the novice. You know the one at the table for the first time ever.

The beginner who has played a few games but still has alot to learn.

Then you have the expert. This is the player we are all afraid of playing with.

This player knows the game inside and out. You can't bluff them and you can't tell when they are bluffing.

It takes time to get really good at the game itself. It also takes some time playing with others before you can read them well enough to win more often than loose.

Poker really is a game of skill no matter how you look at it. Money may change hands but it doesn't change this one fact.

Re: Poker and skill.

Poker has been proven to be a game of skill. I love to watch it on TV and watch the faces of the players. They make no expressions what so ever, and that takes skill too..LOL If I had a good hand it would really be hard not to show it on my face.

Yeah I have trouble not letting the hand show on face too....Thank goodness for online poker, they can't see my face when it turns red with a good hand....

i have played live before, i try to not show my hand on face by thinking of something else....i even go so far as to look around at other things away from table. LOL

Re: Poker and skill.

LOL - reminds me of a story a few months back. I have played online for years and my brother had just started.

We went to a friends house and was playing poker one night and I invited my brother to show off all this new poker skills I had been hearing about.

It was a friendly game, low stakes, 4-5 in every hand guys night out stuff. We came to a hand where the flop produced a straight draw, flush draw, and all kinds of possibilities.

The river brought the flush and my brother, only played online till now, did a little fist pump and said "YEA!" - we all folded.

He has played some more with us and gotten better though but after a good LONG hardy laugh, his only excuse was that is what he does when playing online and it just came out.

Re: Poker and skill.

ROFLMAO....that would be me....

this would be my downfall at a real table:

you know they guys that play table bully, or all in's every hand guys?
well when i finally get a hand against them...and win....i flip birds to the screen at home.... guess i would have to sit on my hands on a live table....
